I learnt and got new experiences there by helping and volunteering myself during the four days there. We managed to make this became succesfully. This cant happen without the cooperation among team members and the owner of the Rumah Charis, Mr. Andrew. Thank you to the lecture incharge, Dr Amizah as she has guiding us throughout this event and gave a lot of knowledges and prepared us to handle this such programme.

Everything ended successfully, though we met some odds in our journey but we managed to solved it together. The most valuable thing I gained is not the completion of our project, but the satisfaction we earned from helping others as well as the memory of course mates bonding together with the children. Once again, I wanted to thank our lecturer, Dr. Amizah binti Malip for giving us the chance.

After the project, I learned to be responsible, coorperate, caring and patient. I also learned some problem solving skills through this project. It is glad to have chance to join this project. I also learned to be appreciate and helpful as there are many people out there who need help or facing a lot of challenges. So it is our responsibility to help others while we can to make this society peace and full with love.

I realize that we should not waste what we have in life. Don't take things for granted because not everyone has it easy like we do so work hard to achieve better success. Overall it gives me more motivation in life.

This experience has opened my eyes even more. It turns out to be very fun, as i get to know these beautiful little kids and my teammates better. The thoughts that keep on going on my mind, the questions, are finally answered through this experience. I learned that we, as humans, as a person, should do and contribute much more to the society. Our society is pretty much messed up. And we, of course, as the younger generation, should do something about it. We might start by doing simple things, such as this community service. It might not be much for us, but it means a lot to the children. Through this activity, we contribute ourself to the sustainability of the children's life.

After we held three to four meetings to organize our
project. I feel an experience that I have never felt. especially this is
the first time I play with small children. Even though our project has
been finished I really want to come there again to play with the
children who are there.

As I completed the activities for the last day of our project, everything had come to an end. I felt thankful for being able to take part in this project. The experience gave me deeper love and understanding for the children, especially some of them are abandoned and neglected. It is hoped that our visit give some positive impacts to the children so that they can be more enthusiastic in their life and study. Hopefully we can pay a visit to Rumah Charis again after few months as a promise to the children.

I had a very good experience during this visit. This is the first time I played with so many innocent children. I hope I can visit Rumah Charis again when I have time. All of the group members gave their full commitment during the visits. From this visit, I learnt to appreciate for what I have now. Besides, Social Engagement let me realise the importance of doing community service as there is a lot of people in this world need our help. Although our efforts don't contribute much to the community, we still do something good and useful to the society.
Muhammad Shahir Bin Shuhaidi
From this project , I have learned to lead a group as well as realize
the importance of having a proper programme planning. I have also
interacted with many types of children , some are healthy and some with
mental disorders. From this , I learn to be patient and listen to their
stories thus making healthy connections with the children. In addition ,
I managed to provide some advices to the children with hope that they
will make use of them in the future. Furthermore , my bonds with my
teammates also become much stronger due to our interaction during all of
the "gotong-royong/cleaning up" session in this trip.

SIQ180507After the volunteering work, i realised that doing a volunteering work reflects us to become a better person. I became more grateful with what i currently have after realising that not everyone is blessed with the same family background. I also learned that helping one another could strengthen the bond between friendships.

I think i grew as a person and this project made me open my eyes to see how blessed i am as i heard unfortunate stories of the kids background from the supervisor. It gave me an insight on the reality of the world where not everyone is blessed with parents that cares and could care for them. Besides that, it also made me realize how i enjoyed volunteering and would definitely do it again.

After the 32 hours I spent with Rumah Charis, I have learned that family is very important to everyone. The love, caring and devotion shared by the family should not be neglected or overlooked. This experience made me appreciate the love and support I get from my family and how lucky I was to have them with me. I wondered what their lives was like without parents by their side. I could get a load of how much the time we spent with them meant to them. Seeing those children, with sporadic resources, made me appreciate the copious amounts of things I had and sometimes, took for granted. I also learned something very important about myself, the feeling of sharing and giving joy gives me a feeling of elation.

All in all, I realized that a university student really needs to be exposed to the community so that I learn something valuable, build maturity in my thinking and self-personality ,ultimately shaping myself to be a better person. From all the activities in the children's home, I learnt to be patient when teaching the children some basic computing skills. Other than that I also learnt the importance of cooperation with the group members. I am very grateful and really appreciate our lecturer, Dr Amizah as she allowed us to perform such a beneficial and meaningful activity.
Ahmad Syahmi bin Ahmad Rastam
The
Rumah Charis experience was eye-opening as we were exposed with kids
coming from various backgrounds and we had to cater them differently.
The Charity Bazaar was also very helpful in terms that they have
increased us in managerial knowledge (how to manage events). The hosts
were all so kind and helpful as well.
Adam Haiqal bin Azrail
Overall, I think it is an eye-opening to me because I've
never been to any kind of charity home that isn't Islamic based. The
house is a Christian based home for orphans and I can see only slight
differences, mainly on their daily schedules. All the houses are always
based on compassion towards love and care. As some of the children are
also disabled, I also learnt a few things about these special kids. On
the other side, there were a few problems with the project such as the
language barrier between kids that are below the age of 9. They only
wanted to speak Mandarin which only half of us could speak fluently. To
conclude, I do think it is a successful project and it benefited both
us, the students and them, Rumah Charis as the host.

Throughout all of the activities that we have done
for our Social Engagement course at Rumah Charis, I would say it is the
best experience I had so far. "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one
ever come to you without leaving happier" quote by Mother Teresa had
actually reflects on what I have gone through for these 4 days of
volunteer work at Rumah Charis. Seeing the children happy in Rumah
Charis make my heart feels at ease. I would say that every people out
there plays an important roles to love and to care these underprivileged
children. They are the one who actually reminds me to be grateful of
everything that I had for today and until now. Stop grumbling and
complaining with all of the hardships in life, but take a step back and
enjoy the beauty in it. A Latin word : Magis - means more or greater.
This word truly describe that one should give more. Love is not tangible
but it did truly affects one's life. In the context of our Social
Engagement, I believe that all of my members and I had sincerely
contribute their time and willingly share the love with the children of
Rumah Charis.
Last but now least, I hope that this Social Engagement course always be the compulsory course in University of Malaya . Plus, I am beyond excited and can't wait to grab for more volunteering opportunities in the future. I would like to express my greatest gratitude to Dr. Amizah binti Malip and all of my teammates who had given the best so that everything went smooth. Kudos to everyone!

I do not feel like I am doing a project, but I feel more that I was just doing what I should do, serving the society, helping those in needs and being more socialised. It is really great that I learnt something from this project. Besides the improvement I can feel in myself, I also realise that how lucky I am to have my family always staying with me, no matter ups and downs, supporting me for everything I want to try. I really appreciate what I have and I decide that in the coming future, if I have the chance, I will spend more time on this kind of activities, because it really helps me to know more about me, and also to develop my soft skills.

After volunteering at Rumah Charis, I learnt a lot of
moral values which is applicable for my life. The most important thing
is we have to be grateful to our parents and friends because they our
companions in life and they will always be there to provide moral
support and motivate us in pursuing our life goals. As for the orphans,
they are not exempted from the support system as they have the managers,
staffs and volunteers who always aid them in their education, welfare
and health. They are brought up well in a conducive, fun and friendly
environment. Not having parents to guide them is not a drawback for them
because they are still full of spirit, enthusiastic and keen to learn
new things in life. The orphans also have their own goals and ambitions
to achieve in their future. Next, we must always work together in groups
when conducting a heavy task to have a synergy among the group members
so that the task carried out will be done quickly and ease the burden
for everyone. Other than that, we get to bond among our group members by
teamwork because we will interact with them frequently when doing the
task.

Firstly i want to say thank you to all team members and Dr Amizah Binti Malip for making this event a successful and helping us throughout the project. I am happy that our SE project is done despite the challenges and problems that we faced. With the help of all team members, it eases the flow and work that needed to be done.
From this project, i learned that i am able to plan and carry out activities, and complete the tasks given. However one of the challenges throughout the project is unable to fully communicate with the children but i am glad that some of the team members willing to translate what the children says.
Next, the opportunity that i get from joining this project is i get to become a volunteer for the charity bazaar event and also a tutor to the children of Rumah Charis. Lastly, for the upcoming project, i hope that we can make the activities more variety and we can find a place where communication would not be the main problem, so that activities can be carry out more efficiently.

I learned to be grateful because no everyone had it
good with life. People are born in different environment. I also learned
to be committed to a project as when someone did not do their jobs they
might jeopardize the whole team. The project also made me realize that I
like doing charity work because it brings smile to people

SIQ180029The
visit to Rumah Charis Home for the Children had raised the awareness in
me about the importance of love and attention in shaping the children's
future. In this visit, I became a good listener to their problems and
gave them some motivation by sharing my personal experience with them.
Besides, I believed the basic computer skills that they learnt from me
would be useful in the future to enhance their reasoning and
creative-thinking skills. Last but not least, I felt grateful and
fortunate to be surrounded by my loving family members and friends since
a tender age. In my opinion, we should visit the charity home more
frequently to make the underprivileged children feel loved and cared.
